It all boils down to racism

>> Thursday, October 30, 2008

I just had a situation come up here at work that has me so pissed off that my heart is still pounding over it. A group of people from our office were sitting around the table discussing the upcoming elections and different things about McCain and Obama. The typical rumors and untruths about Obama came into play--he's a Muslim, he's a socialist, etc. One by one, a woman in our office of mostly McCain supporters dispelled the untruths. THEN the issue about the birth certificate came up. Thus far, I had kept quiet, going about my business of filing, etc. But on this one I couldn't be silent. I turned around and said,

"You know, I really don't understand what this whole thing about Obama's birth certificate is all about. There is an official copy of his birth certificate on line that shows he was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. If you want to see it, I have the URL. But the fact is, it really doesn't matter WHERE he was born. He could have been born anywhere in the world because he was born to a U.S. citizen, and that makes him a U.S. citizen too. And the other thing is that no one seems to question John McCain's citizenship even though he was born in Panama. I wonder why THAT is?"

They all just glared at me like I had just committed treason so I turned and walked away.

The truth of the matter is that they just can't accept the fact that a BLACK man is about to win the U.S. Presidency and they'll use ANYTHING as an excuse. "Oh no, we're not racist!"

So if this isn't stemming from racism why do they not question McCain's citizenship as well?

Ulgy, ugly, ugly...

Actually there is a LOT more to be questioned about McCain's birth than Obama's. I wish I could recall why but of course he gets a pass.

Thanks for dropping in and thanks so much for leaving a comment!

My oldest daughter just returned a few months ago from a year-long exchange in France--Bretagne to be exact. She absolutely loved it there and came home with a tremendous love and respect for the French. She is now in college majoring in International Studies with a double major in French. Her French language skills were SO outstanding that she tested out of her first two years of French classes. :)

Again, thanks for stopping by!

Boy, can I relate to this! It seems that everywhere I've gone in the past 3 weeks, I've been dragged into a political discussion, against my will, with the other person slamming Obama and parroting the same stupid Republican talking points that you mentioned. I guess they hate my "That One '08" and "Polar Bears for Obama" buttons! Tough! I'm sick of the lies, slander and all the other crap. This election is so crucial to the lives of every working person that, for the first time in my life, I've volunteered to work at the polls - as a poll monitor - and on Monday I will be canvassing neighborhoods with other Obama volunteers. The future is at stake here.

Excellent point, Lynette. Obama could be born on Mars, and that wouldn't stop most of us who are voting for him.

Kathy,

I'd really LOVE to have a "That One '08" button! LOL!

I know what you mean. I'm not working polls, but I've been actively campaigning on line-sending emails, blogging, participating in activities to keep the base motivated, etc. And for the first time in my entire life, I've actually donated money to a political campaign!

YES WE WILL!

Looks like this election is splitting a nation, there is so much hatred.I hope Obama wins and he can unite the country for what you all are, Americans. - I am German

Welcome to my blog, land-frau! I have traveled to Germany and it's a beautiful country filled with beautiful people! I hope to go back sometime soon.

Yes, we are all Americans, and we are at a crossroads in our history. We've not been so divided since the American Civil War in the mid 19th century. My hopes are the same as yours, that President Obama will unite us as a country and help to bring us, along with the entire world, to a place of healing.

I was reading something one line yesterday that I thought was extremely interesting. It said that never before have the nations of the world been so interested in a U.S. presidential election and that the world overwhelmingly supports Obama.

I believe that destiny has chosen him for this time.
