The World's most beautiful music: Handel: Cara sposa from "Rinaldo"

>> Friday, April 3, 2009

This is it, Ladies and Gentlemen, from the same opera that brought you the gorgeous and heart-wrenching Lascia ch'io pianga, we have yet another heart-wrenching aria, Cara sposa. Originally intended for castrato, this particular recording was made by the fabulous mezzo-soprano, Marilyn Horne.

This is beautiful! My daughter had the opportunity to sing for her a few years back.

Did you know that Horne is a young girl in the chorus in the movie The King and I?

I heard her in concert several years ago at the regional NATS competition in Denton, Texas. She sang this and had the entire audience in tears.

Heart-wrenching is right! But it's beautiful, nonetheless.

And I liked following the score as I listened to it.
