Goin' for Baroque: Bach's Orchestral Suite

>> Wednesday, June 3, 2009

These pieces need no introduction, for they're probably among Bach's most famous. I've chosen three of my favorites from Bach's Orchestral Suite, (Bwv 1067), the Badinerie, Bourree, and Polonaise, played beautifully by the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra. So get out your powdered wigs and put on your red-heeled dancing shoes and dance!

Hi Lynette,

Not enough room for cavorting, even in a genteel way, but the music was nice!

I found a place where I can order the Badiniere transcribed for recorder - something I've been looking for ever since I first heard this music in high school.

The harpsichordist is playing my dream harpsichord: a Flemish double!! I'm drooling with envy! LOL

So many people think Bach's music was all just ponderous and heavy - they need to hear this! And what a great ensmble this is!

I was hoping you'd drop by and give these a listen, Kathy. Actually, I posted these mostly with you in mind. :)

Thanks, Nettl! I've been really busy with the class I'm taking this spring semester. It's normally a 15-week course, but I decided to take the accelerated 7-week version of it, so I could finish the first of the two certificates I'm going for and hopefully get back into a job soon. I haven't forgotten Chapter 6; I'll read it as soon as I can.
