Karl Jenkins' Requiem: Dies Irae

>> Thursday, October 29, 2009

Released in 2005, Requiem is an album by Welsh composer Karl Jenkins. In this work, Jenkins interjects movements featuring Japanese death poems in the form of a haiku with those traditionally encountered in a Requiem Mass. At times, the Latin text is sung below the text of the haiku.

Frightening images, but what a fascinating version of Dies Irae!!! Very cool!

This video totally creeps me out, but the music is very compelling and the Dies Irae so well interpreted by the composer that I couldn't resist it. I've listened to a number of works by Jenkins in the last several months and have really come to respect this composer and his work.
