So I'm a sucker for baritones: The voice that made me fall in love

Eighteen years old. Never seen a live opera. Tulsa Opera, 1978. Mozart's Don Giovanni. Sherrill Milnes. I was hooked.

Featured here with Edith Mathis singing the duet from Act I of Don Giovanni, "La ci darem la mano".

I actually have some better recordings of Milnes, (to be shared later), but this one was the most appropriate for this particular post.

Actually, I sang Zerlina in Don Giovanni, (many years ago). It was one of my favorite "young" roles. I've matured into a full-blown lyric mezzo now so that, along with my age, has forced me to retire all of those wonderful Mozart "soubrette" roles. But those certainly were the days! :)

Delish! Like merlot and dark chocolate for breakfast. rich. Love this duet.
I envy you, a voice is sorely lacking here but so desired. Sort of found it in my son- when he feels full and lets it out operatically I just electrify and then melt.
Perhpas not having a voice saved me from myself melting all the time...
